In 2019, concerned with our infrastructure, Founder Candace Leos Valdepena set a goal to become educated in local politics and become a part of the solution.  She began her journey researching, attending council meetings and talking to other residents about their experiences and history. She realized that the problems Compton faces are decades old. New administrations have inherited issues from past administrations and the cycle has continued. She decided it was time to break the cycle one meeting at a time.

So how do we change the narrative in Compton? Our organization believes that it starts with us and through Compton Advocates, we will continue to work to engage, educate, activate and empower community members. We will continue our work building successful, productive working relationships with our elected officials and building a healthy community.
